Ugo Nespolo was born in Mosso (Biella) in 1941. Painter, sculptor important exponent of contemporary Italian art.

Graduated from the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts, he later graduated in Modern Literature showing great interest in Semiology. He made his debut on the Italian art scene in the 1960s with contaminations of Pop Art and a close militancy with conceptualists and poverists. His production is soon characterized by strong transgressive, ironic accents and that apparent sense of fun, gifts that will lend themselves to the cinematic canvas exploring soon, in the seventies also this medium of expression.

The 1980s represent for Ugo Nespolo the most appreciated maturation of the American period, his paintings depicting objects and common places of American cities. He collaborates with RAI for which he makes videoigles, collaborates in the realization of advertisements, faithful to the dictate of the historical avant-gardes to “bring art into life,” the artist must occupy spaces of common life, get out of the assigned, canonical spaces.

In the 1990s he flanked his many activities with a commitment to the theater, creating sets and costumes for the Rome Opera House, the Paris Opera, Lausanne, Liegoi and Metz.

Nespolo is also counted among the “masters of the Palio,” for having painted in 2000 the two sendalli for that year’s Palio di Asti.

In 2005 in Turin, he created thematic works for Gtt in the Turin subway stations and later decorated the exterior of the Via Livorno shopping center with his unmistakable imprint.
