Amitrava is born in an urban middle-class family in 1966 in North-Calcutta & completed his academics in Calcutta, Kharagpur & followed by higher ones in Calcutta again. Handling the camera was more of a family-centric chance for him from school days during class IV-V on securing a prize in district level examination though the status of being a student during academics, didn’t provide him that ample scope of exploring further. However, joining his debut professional field in 1987/88 in the banking sector, gave him the required freedom of garnering films on his own. With the consecutive changing job platforms/portfolios for next six occasions in different organisations over next four years, gradually, the passion aspect became more & more deeper evolving like an obsessive infatuation to his and with camera, he tried & still try to find out and reach from reality to abstract, from tangible to intangible through the myriad layers of manifestations of humanity. In the world of daily mundane reality, it is that magic realism which supplements and provides with the source of sustenance and impetus to, whenever, he personally encounter the sense of disbelief of my very existence. With a very scanty available time for nurturing my hobby after professional obligation, camera acts for his as a tool for exploring different perspectives in & around, with the innermost quest for subjective revelations.
Conferred with the Honour AFIAP in 2010 from FIAP (the UNESCO accredited body) and secured couple of awards, accolades & accreditations both from International & National levels which includes WHO-Geneva, Livelihood Asia, Thomson Reuters Foundation’s Women Empowerment-USA, Life Beyond Tourism-Italy, Alfred Fried Peace-Sweden, John Hopkins University-USA, Beyond Boundaries-Portugal, Global Landscape Forum-Marrakesh, People & Planet by ICC-France on Sustainable Development and Mankind, Royal Society of Biology-UK, Co-op Hotshots-Singapore, InterAction-USA, Sony WPO-UK and Govt. of West-Bengal Annual Photo Contest(3 times), WB.
