Francesco Gioia is a self-taught photographer whose work blends different photographic genres and styles, from avant-garde to documentary, from street photography to cinematic surrealism.
Gioia’s work covers a broad spectrum and takes inspiration from great colorists such as Ernst Haas and Saul Leiter, from expressionism and from cinema noir.
Born and raised in Florence, for a few years he worked in one of the most prestigious photographic agencies in the country, Torrini Fotogiornalismo.
At the age of 24 he moved to London and focused full time on photography.
Winner of numerous international awards and published in various photography magazines and newspapers such as The Guardian, his work has been exhibited in the UK, Europe and the USA.
