Utereyes is a neologism coined by the artist from the union of the words Uterus (womb) and Eyes (eyes), and is composed of the drawing of two stylized uteruses, from the reflection of one on the other an eye is created which symbolically represents awakening, awareness.
Utereyes represents women's freedom to choose, both about their bodies and their sexual properties. It is an active, consenting and vigilant womb, no longer passive and subjected to the impositions of others, due to social, ethical or religious dogmas. It is the symbol of the freedom to be a person first and foremost, beyond gender. The development of Utereyes is a continuous work in progress.
The work was exhibited from February to May 2023 at the Madre Museum in Naples and its Tapestry variant is a finalist in the international Arte Laguna Prize 2024.
